I have old cart, and a new cart.
New Cart is Productcart, but, the layout of the 'old' cart is very similar.   Same products, same prices, etc.

I even have a coupon on old site to inform the customer that they can click on the link, get 5% discount on the new site.

No dice. Repeat and new customers just ignore the new site, and place an order on the old site.
I may need to get alittle more agressive (say like ask the customer why).

One item that I have noticed (and have heard some complain) is that the productcart require that you have an email account (and register) to check out.
But, I didn't figure it was going to be that big of a deal.

Hmm, still abit odd.

Hi

I had to migrate from my old store recently and the only way to really make it happen is to take down the old store after doing a migration of the products in the background.

Customers often quite simply can't be bothered and will just keep using the route they trust - which is their right, but it makes it harder for us.   Customers won't make the choice between the old and new stores - you'll have to bite the bullet and do that I think.

I've not found people are put off by the ProductCart email account, quite the opposite really, it's actually stimulated sales as people can track their orders etc.   The key thing is to clearly articulate the benefits and ensure there is sufficient supporting information (I use the Content Pages for this) and that the ordering process you configure in the software is simple.

So far, about half of normal.

Hmm, as a side note, I need to figure out this stuff with affliates.   I use the affliate link, and place a sample order.   However, when I go to affliate reports, nothing is listed for that affliate. Hmm

Did you put a redirection script in to the old version so that people are directed to the new store?

The one thing you don't want is links from outside just being 'error404 page not found'.  When I took down the old store, I left the pages with redirection and just took out the content.

On the Affiliates - have you set up the Affiliate in the admin area of the store?

You should definetely do redirects. Either server side or meta redirect. If you dont you search engine rankings will drop.

Make sure to use 301 Permanent Redirects. Google specifically says "If your old URLs redirect to your new site using HTTP 301 (permanent) redirects, our crawler will discover the new URLs. For more information about 301 HTTP redirects, please see http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2616.txt - http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2616.txt . "
