I was wondering if anyone has tried moving all the shopping cart pages to a different directory so the location for the SSL in the settings could be something like...

secure.domain.com instead of the same www.domain.com.

Im sure you could prob configure so that you would not need to move to a different folder but I was thinking this could also be a good way to be able to update the login > onepagecheckout > payment without needing to update all the front end pages which may be customized.

Ben,

Since the domain name changes, this could create issues with session variables. We don't believe this would work.

How would this be different in principle than using shared SSL (vis a vis session variables)?

Though, apparently the limitation there is that you can only have the gateway part of the checkout process encrypted, right?

Hi Ben, could you elaborate on this? Not sure I see what you are wanting to accomplish.

In the http:///www.earlyimpact.com/productcart/system_req.asp#1 - system requirements :

In addition, please note that ProductCart does not support the scenario in which a hosting company forces a customer to place to-be-secure pages in a special directory on the Web server.

This scenario results in session management issues.  For all the trouble it causes a dedicated SSL pays for itself.
