Just out of the blue I've noticed that i can't log into the control panel. It will not let me pass the users agreement. I have deleted the cookies in all our browsers and still nothing. I can get it it only on one computer running windows xp and using Safari but no other browser works (Firefox and Internet Explorer). I found the same problem in the FAQ section but it wasn't very helpful.

It may be folder permission issues. Not sure though.

Hi Ronad, Is there a hyphen or similar character in the URL? I've seen this before when that is the case. On that occasion the fix was to change the folder name so there was no longer a hyphen in the URL. Not sure if that will be an option for you though, it depends on your setup.

Hi Ronad, I deleted your post as it's "a bad idea" to share the control panel on the open web - It just invites the curious or the malicious to come and try and get in. Security by obscurity is no bad thing, not that the code relies on it in any way, it's just better not to have the bad guys banging on your door :-)

thats cool I figured that would happen. Just wanted to give you and idea of the situation. I opened up a support ticket so hopefully I can get this issue resolved. I find it weird that nobody else has had this problem.

FWIW I am seeing the same issue that Ronad reports. Cannot get past license screen in IE.

I have seen this too on a couple of stores, one of which had no hyphen or other character. The maddening thing is that it works fine on some computers & browsers, and not on others, with no discernible pattern that I can see.
On one of them, the merchant can log in just fine; however, I can't except for in IE on my Vista.
On the other store, the merchant couldn't get in on any computer or browser, while I was able to get in on some combinations. For this store I just ended up making the login screen skip over checking to see if the EULA has been agreed to (sorry).

Hi Folks, Here's an edited version of the reply to the ticket - so that you can check if this is the scenario you are also encountering : "The problem that you are experiencing is that
there is an extra "hidden" folder in the path to your Web site. If you
look at the actual URL in the 'cookie' that is placed on your local
system by the Web server, it reads as follows:
www.yourdomain.com/extradir/store/youradmin
http://www.lightbulbdistributor.com/lightbulbdistributor/store/lbadmin2/ - Notice
that their is a folder/directory under the Root named
"extradir" that does not show up in the URL when browsing
your store or site. You will need to contact your Web hosting company
and ask them to move your Web site to the actual Root directory... or
you can ask them to update the DNS to point to the
"extradir" folder as the Root."

While I don't have the "extra directory" think goin on, I do believe that the issue must be related to properly setting and reading cookies.
Could you provide us a simple way to response.write the value of the cookie? I just don't have time to look at it, as it hasn't been that big of a deal.

I currently have a store which does not have the extra folder name, but is experiencing the same issue - cannot get past the license agreement screen.
This store was just upgraded to v4. v4 is running in a seperate folder, along with v3 in the other folder, so it can be reviewed/tested.

Hi Greg & Sean, Take a look in the cookie - which is easiest with Firefox or Chrome I believe. In Firefox : Tools > Options > Privacy : Remove Individual Cookies , then use the filter to get to the correct domains cookie. The Cookie name will start with AgreeLicence Select the cookie and check the "Host" and "Path" which combined should match the URL & path name to the control panel directory.
Now that I've finished teaching grandma to suck eggs (hey I'm hoping it will be useful to others !) , of course that may not be the issue in your scenarios, but it's good to eliminate it completely.

Thanks, Hamish.
I had a look at this and the cookie path was correct. I deleted the cookie and tried again, got send back to check the EULA box. I looked at the cookie again, and the path was correct.
I get past the check box on IE 6 & Chrome on one machine (XP Pro), but not FireFox. I get past it on IE 8, FireFox and Chrome on another machine (Vista). This is different as I wasn't able to get past it on IE & FF last time I tried on this machine. Haven't had a chance to check on Win7 machine yet.

Well, this is pretty frustrating. This is the first time that this has happened to me.
I cannot get in on any of the office computers. I click the checkbox and hit submit and the page just sits there.
Sean removed the EULA agreement - has anyone else solved this? I may just have to temporarily remove that as well if not...

Hi Amy,
This is the biggest "beotch!" buggy issue thing in PC yet IHMO. Doesn't seem to make a difference what version.
It appears to be intermittent: each time I look at it on a problem site, I've gotten different results in different browsers on different machines.
I've tried to debug it rationally, but have gotten nowhere. When I had that one site that absolutely needed it fixed, I had to gut the check on the EULA (not what I'd prefer to do, but the merchant needed to get in there!).
I don't think anyone, including EI, is close to having a handle on how this happens -- esp. how it sometimes just pops up out of nowhere, but I think EI needs to take point on collecting reported info here and see what they can figure out on this one. I'm done. If I run into it again, I'm just going to whack the EULA and let it show up again on the next upgrade. The merchant has already agreed to the EULA, so this is still within the "spirit of the law", as it were IMHO.

Has anyone come up with a solution? My clients are going crazy. (Which means they drive me crazy)

Yes, we have found the source of the problem, which appears to have to do with the License Agreement being a textarea field on the page. We are still doing final testing, but you can certainly give it a try in the meantime.
- Download this file: uploads/1/login_1.zip - login_1.zip
- Unzip it
- Upload it to the Control Panel folder
This is only for a store that has Parent Paths enabled.
The reason why the issue only happens on certain Web servers is that it is triggered by server-side software that is put in place to block harmful form submissions and - just like a SPAM filter - sometimes blocks activity that is not harmful at all.
Let us know if the problem persists after using the new file.

I can't get past the licensing agreement. I recently moved my site from a test domain with subfolder to the live site domain. Looking at the cookies in Firefox, I see that it's trying to reference the subfolder from the test domain. How do you fix this? I have updated the URL in the storeconstants.

The following FAQ might provide some insight, but if not you should submit a support ticket:

I'm guessing that it is because of #1, but there isn't a solution. The admin works fine on the other domain, and the hosting location did not change... just the URL. I've tried clearing the cookies as well as pulling up on a new computer.
