Is there an easy way to remove the parent category thumbnail image from the subcategory pages? I'd like to only show the subcategory thumbnail images as you drill down.

Any ideas?

Thanks and standing by..

I just meant what version of ProductCart - the configuration options in the admin area are quite different in v3 to previous versions (2.76 and earlier).

cheers

Is there a way to do this withing the confines of the control panel or would it be a custom job?

Thanks.

You can set the display settings at the category level. Assume you want to have top-level categories shown as a list (no images), but you want one or more of the sub-categories to show the category image:

  • In the general store settings, you would select the option to show categories as a list
  • Then you would edit the individual, top-level categories to change that display setting. When you do this, the sub-categories are displayed using the different display setting (e.g. orizonally with images).

Yes, you can use:

display: none;

It cannot be used with all elements on the page. But you can hide a DIV or a table, for example. Be careful when hiding text as according to some SEO experts this could be picked up as bad practice by search engines and trigger a penalty.

I think I phrased my question incorrectly... when I said "parent" category images I meant "present"... So when I click into main category 1 I see the main category 1 thumbnail at the top and the subcategory thumbs below it. Is there an easy way to hide it and just show breadcrumbs? e.g. home > cagetory 1

Thanks

Here is a trick that may work for you.  Product cart wants an image for the category.  Either you put yours in or it will put the default one there.  How about creating one that has the background of your page in a 1x1 pixel image.   Call it tiny.jpg.  Next put that into the field for the category image and that should work.  It will display the tiny jpg image, which is not visible due to the background being the same color.  All the user sees is the text.  Not sure how much spacing that will generate above the category name, but it is worse a try.

This would work well. However it has the disadvantage of hiding your main category image one the top top shopping page; eg when you click on Browse by Category.

I checked the CSS and there is no selector defined for that thumbnail so it cannot be hidden without customizing the page output to contain a selector.

anyone know off hand what page to edit to add the selector to?

Thanks

I've figured it out; I edited viewcategories.asp and pcstorefront.css to hide the category image.. Example: http://www.certificatespecialists.com/ProductCart/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=6 - http://www.certificatespecialists.com/ProductCart/pc/viewCat egories.asp?idCategory=6
