Hi All,
Trying to figure out a couple of things about affiliates. When setting up an affiliate, I notice you can select an item to generate a link. I also seem to remember that somewhere in the Wiki it mentions an item link and a store link. Is the store link the affiliate log-in link or is it a generic link for any product purchased?
Also, if we set up a product link for an affiliate and the customer links to the product but decides to purchase some other item, is that other product sale recorded to the affiliate? I want to be sure that I'm disclosing the correct information to the affiliate.
Thanks
Alan

Hi Alan - product link takes you to a product, and the store link takes you to the home page. The only difference is having "idaffiliate=xxx" in the URL. When the visitor arrives with an affiliate ID in any form, a session variable is established identifying them as having arrived via an affiliate link. I'm fairly certain that any purchases, regardless of what the link was, are then tracked to that affiliate for commission purposes.

Thanks Greg, that makes sense. The "cookie" is king

Just to add to Greg's response, PC 3.5 and above sets a cookie on the visitor's computer so if they purchase on future visits the affiliate will still get credit. You can set the amount of days the cookie remains on your visitors computer. So if you only want to give the affiliate credit if the visitor places an order within 7 days you'd set this value to 7. This is explained more in http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/productcart/affiliates-overview?s%5b%5d=affiliate - the Wiki .

Thanks Shawn, I did see that. Just wanted to make sure that if the customer arrived at a specific product using the affiliate id that any other purchase made by that customer (other than the specific product) was also tracked so the affiliate would benefit.
