This does not sound good unless there is some part of the story that you are not including, perhaps as a result of not knowing those details.

If the SSL has already been issued, installation takes 5 minutes or so.

There are circumstances where one might then have to adjust programming, fo example if you used a shared SSL cert and had to make coding changes so that the header/footer would play nice with the alternate URL path, but it is hard to imagine where 5 hours is coming from. One really needs to know all of the details to make an informed judgment.

I really need to find someone new. Do you know how I can locate which members here are developers?

Depending on the SSL company, you can get them for around $100/year or less. Updating an existing SSL, as Greg mentioned is pretty quick.

Several of us are developers, including Dan (Netprofits) who posted above, Mark Shipp (Cognecy), Sean (WMS) and myself.  Shawn (Itistic) has posted a lot recently, presumably he may be looking for clients.  If you would like to call me later this morning (after 8AM pacific please) I could discuss what we have to offer and you can make a choice between us and our colleagues.
