Hi there,
I have an Cubecart store right now, which we haven't been very happy with.

We're researching other options and keep coming back to ProductCart, but there are a few things we need our site to be able to do and I'm just not sure if it's possible to do with ProductCart.

1. We are selling mp3s, individually, and would like the front page to be fairly simple. Just start out with the mp3s, all listed. Like this:

2. That mp3 button opens to a page where you can play the mp3, but not save it. Is this possible using ProductCart?

Also, how easy is it for someone with minimal web knowledge to manipulate the graphics with ProductCart. Adding a header and footer, changing color schemes, your own navigation. I've got all of the design pieces, I'm just trying to figure out if I need to higher a web developer to put it together.

Thanks!
Liz

Hi Liz,

ProductCart has very good support for downloadable products (in my obviously slightly biased eyes :-) )

Regarding your second question - I think you would be better off using a short sample of the MP3s, or perhaps a lower quality. It's pretty much impossible to prevent an MP3 being recorded if it is available to play (Regardless of the ecommerce software you are using). See this discussion for more details :

ProductCart has several display options for products, of which the closest to your example above is the "Display Items Vertically (list view) with the ability to add multiple items to the cart" - Follow this link to see an example of the different layouts and scroll up slightly for some additional info about that layout : http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/productcart/settings-display#four_ways_to_display_products_in_a_category_examples -

Regarding the design issue - see http://www.greatonlinestores.com/ - http://www.greatonlinestores.com/ for some great examples of what can be done in the real world with ProductCart. Needless to say, using a good designer will always result in a better looking site - one that is already familiar with  ProductCart is likely to be most effective. There are several great designers that frequent the forum and you will also find links to quite a few from the great online stores link above.

If you go the DIY route, or just want to get an understaning of how it can be done then see the various pages linked to from http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/productcart/productcart#chapter_2getting_started - http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/productcart/productcart#chapter_2getting_started
for information on styling ProductCart to meet your needs.

Hope that helps!
