Hi all,

This is my first post here.  We have a web developer that I don't quite trust who is handling the set up of our product cart for us.  We have multiple lines of cabinetry and they were originally imported via .csv files when installing product cart and first setting it up.

However, it's been several months now and we need to add a new line to our brand, which involves 100's of item numbers and related info for each item.

Our developer is saying that we now need to do each item manually one by one as he thinks importing from a csv at this stage may affect items already on the site.

I'm not sure if it's the developer's laziness/incompetence or if he's really telling the truth, but I think it may be the former.

So I'd like to ask you all if you know a good way to import many items at once into Product Cart.

Thank you VERY much for your help.

-Jay

You can most certainly add new products to the store via CSV import.  The only restriction is that you don't want to duplicate SKU numbers.  Were  you to reference some other product's SKU with a new one, that would indeed cause grief - but not otherwise.

Thank you very much for your response Greg.  Is .csv still the best way to import many products at once into product cart or would you by chance have any other suggestions?

Sure - if CSV worked for you before, and you are familliar with the process, go for it. That IS the fastest (and only) way to bulk import product.

Greg, do you know of a tutorial for uploading the csv file and what the formatting would need to be?  This was done before I was brought on the company and now the web people (who we need to fire) are making it seem as if they'd rather not do it.  If there is a tutorial I can do it myself as I have Product Cart access.

Thanks and have a good holiday.

Here are the instructions:

You might want to call and say hello.  I have staff who are experienced with the import module and could literally do this for you if you want it off your plate.

Importing new products should be easy just like Greg said.  You can also import existing products changes in which Product Cart will give you the option to update your products by matching the sku numbers in your .csv to the existing sku numbers in the store.

Greg and Eddie,

Thank you very much.  We won't be working on this for a few weeks.  If it comes to a point where I think I'm in over my head I will keep your company in mind, sharing your expertise pro-bono up to this point is very appreciated.

I've tried updating items via a CSV file using the product import wizard. My concern now is I want to bulk update the SKU's of my products. I don't seem to make it work using a CSV. Here's what I currently have in my CSV file:

SKU     NEWSKU
1-1     001-01

I want to map the NEWSKU to the SKU field in the database but I'm getting this error message: "Some of the mapping instructions are overlapping. Please make sure that the database fields are mapped uniquely."

Please advise how to go about this procedure of bulk updating the product SKU's using a CSV file. Hoping for your response soon. Thanks!
