Hi Everyone,

I've been testing orders and surfing on our shopping cart. (I'm on version v4.1 BTO). I noticed we were having problems when the address bar switched from:
http://www.mydomain.com/ to http://mydomain.com/
Things would drop from the shopping cart and other fun login/logout issues.

I traced the links and saw that it was not hard-coded in any of my header or footer files like that. When I did a search in the ProductCart folder, I found the culprit in storeconstants.asp.

When I check storeconstants.asp, the scStoreURL for the store is http://mydomain.com. If I change it to http://www.mydomain.com it SOLVES all the issues. I was so excited, then I tried to log in and add more products.

BUT, I am locked out of the Control Panel and it tells me my license is invalid and says I'm trying to use the same installation on a different storefront and that the license is only good for one store. If I take the www. back out I can log in, but then I have the surfing problem again.

Thoughts?

Thank you so much.

-Andrea

Hi Andrea,
The reson for the loss of cart contents is that, to the server, the www and non-www views are separate sites, so a new session is started when you switch. To prevent this see http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/developers/timeout-issues#use_of_different_domain_names - http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/developers/timeout-issues#use_of_different_domain_names

Hi Hamish,
I have had a similar problem with users (and Google) entering my domain name incorrectly, and have added your wiki code to stringfunctions.asp. This works well, except in the case where a user goes to a page with a SEO URL. This gives an error message when adding to cart, as the URL is misformed. Have you tested the wiki code with SEO URLs turned on ?

Richard, I can't speak to that code, but we have a different approach to the issue.

On our IIS6 servers we run http://www.helicontech.com - www.helicontech.com ISAPI Rewrite.  On IIS7 gear we have URL Rewrite.  Using those tools we create rules that handle the www versus non-www requests and it works seamlessly.   You may want to ask your host if either is available.

I just wanted to let you know the problem is fixed. Early Impact support reset my license and I was able to change it to http:www.mydomain.com AND log into the control panel afterward.

Thanks so much Cedric & the rest of the Early Impact Support team.

Best wishes,
Andrea

I don't know - I just asked my host first-web.net to redirect one domain to the other.
