When registering, there is an option where the user can check a ckeckbox to subscribe to the newsletter. Is it possible to have, anywhere on the site, an inputfield where the user can input his/her input field to subscribe/unsubscribe to the newsletter? But subscribing to the newsletter, the checkbox will also be selected and visa-versa.

I am wondering the same thing, has anyone figured this out? Just a simple text box for people to input their email address and click Sign Up to join instead of having register to sign up to the newsletter...
I appreciate any help given.

Yes, that would be nice, so customer's don't have to enter all of their info, because they could get discouraged if they see a lot of fields. Similar to that of the one by (see the one on their home page) http://www.constantcontact.com/index.jsp - Constant Contact.
I would prefer to have the customer sign up on my site so their info is stored in our DB. Then I can export the customer name and email into any 3rd party email campaign software. But I don't want customer's to have to sign up using the lengthy form from my site, I also don't want to have my customer's sign up using a 3rd party form because then I'll have to do a lot of sorting to make sure I don't have duplicate customers.
I hope that makes sense. :)
I guess some way to disable the "required" fields would be nice too but just for the newsletter sign up page.
Keep me posted if anyone figures this out.

I went with an outsourced newsletter service for a couple of reasons. First, it gives me the flexibility to choose what fields the visitor has to input. And second, using a respected email service provider ensures a higher deliverability rate for emails. I went with Constant Contact, but another good choice would be aweber.

Yes, I also use constant contact, I just didn't want to have to add or import the customers from my PC DB into CC and then massage the data to make sure there are no duplicagtes. What if I want the customers who signed up via CC form to use the site and access it then I'd have to do a daily export from CC to dump the data into the PC BD. I just wanted to manage one DB of customers and simply export them whenever I do the newsletters so I can use their email tracking system. Hope that makes sense. Most likely that's what we'll have to do anyway, just didn't want to massage a lot of data for every newsletter. :)
