I was told:

"unfortunately we are stuck with the way Product Cart sizes the
thumbnails for the catalog pages. The images are all sized based on one
dimension, either horizontal or vertical. So if we size all the images
at 200px wide, the landscape format images will be significantly smaller
than portrait images. And vice versa if we size them based on 200px
high. This is a fairly common issue, and without some serious
programming, I don't see any way around this issue"

is this true? its simple to customize the size of thumb images in the source code as far as I know....

You have a couple of options depending on how much work you want to do.

1. When you perform the upload and resize for a specific product, you can set the max size that you want for each image view (thumbnail, regular and detail). You don't have to accept the defaults.

2. You can upload individual pics and then select those pics from the Product entry screen without using the upload and resize feature.

3. You can create your product images of specific sizes, FTP those pics to the catalog folder, and then use the product import wizard with the image names in the import or use the product entry screen to select the proper images without using the pload and resize.

That's what I did.  For some reason the forum won't paste in my example link so to see it working go to

http://www.wovenwheatwhispers.com
then 'artist a-z' and then 'Brimstone, Derek'

where you can see variable shape thumbs.

cheers
Mark
