Subject: charset problem - html editor

I have this symbol ""  showing on some of my products pages in Google Chrome but not in IE Explorer. The charset for pages is "content="text/html; charset=utf-8""

To rectify this I can edit the product and click on "html editor" and just click save.

I need to find a solution that I can apply to correct this globally throughout Productcart as this is an issue with a large number of products.

I have posted regarding this before and tried changing the charset to utf-8 but does not seem to be the end of this problem.

Please help.

Cant work this out, If I change the Charset to charset=iso-8859-1 it just changes the symbol.

I have looked at the data in the DB and there is nothing where the symbol shows in the browser.

If I use utf-8 the problem is only in Google Chrome, using charset=iso-8859-1 it shows in multiple browsers.

Dont know how this started.

I read one of my previous posts from March 2011 where I had found the problem and and added the  charset=utf-8 and thought I fixed the problem.

Lately we discover that the problem persists in Google Chrome.

My wife read up on this for hours and asked me to try this.

charset=utf-8" without BOM

And it appears to have worked.

Hi austcold,

I've had a similar strange character show up in some descriptions on my site. In my case, it was the result of an extra space in between two words. Once I removed the space, the character was gone.

Don't know if this will work for you but worth a try if it occurs again.

In my case there is no extra space. If I use utf-8 charset it only shows in Google Chrome.

And I can still get this to show if I log into Productcart CP and got to a product and change the image then preview the product. But if I close the browser and reopen it they go away.

Very strange, but from what we have worked out this is a glitch with chrome. And could be related with the html editor in productcart. However is we use charset iso-8859-1 the problem persists in all browser but with another symbol, (an A with the line above it".

Since we applied the "utf-8 without BOM" the problem does not persist once Chrome has been closed.

Dont know if any other issues may arise from the without BOM command but time will tell.
