Has anyone found a way to add a special field in checkout that sends with the order, but doesn't save with the customer account?
And, to put it next to specific fields in Checkout, rather than down with the rest of the "Special Customer Questions"?

Our customer base is a mixture of small business and hobbyists. So the Company Name in their online account is normally their own business name, but sometimes is their day job, where they are having their order shipped. Sometimes they have other (valid) reasons for listing yet another Company name there.  Some are also quite fickle with their business names, as they change to making different types of crafts.

So our data department would like us to add a clickbox like
"Update my permanent account with this info." 
and have it send with the order, but then clear itself (like the Comment field, and "Name your Order" field).

It would nice if this could also be integrated into PayPal checkout ... but as long as it didn't break PayPal checkout we'd be content.

Hi Polly,

This would be non-trivial. The OPC is complicated, plus you've got the composition of the email message to deal with. Then there's the display of this info in the control panel.

It would require significant customization.

That's what I thought.  Assistance please! =)  
I have our tech working on plenty of other projects to keep him busy for the forseeable future. 
If I've already given enough info above, I'd love it if you send me a quote and time estimate. Or call me Friday @ 509-252-2900 x131 (too many meetings today).

I'd also like a drop-down menu box for one of our questions in the normal "Special Customer Questions" section. 
I'd like customers to be able to choose from a few backorder options in a dropdown menu, rather than just click "Backorder" or leave the box blank to cancel out of stock items.   It's fine if this option saves with their account. Most of our customers keep the same backorder preference for all orders.
