I switched GollyGear.com to ProductCart from Miva 4.x (mega-problems there). I know absolutely zero coding in any language, except for some rudimentary html. The old GollyGear.com existed for lots of years and had built up a good following and now, of course, all the file names have changed! I've read articles about 301 redirect, and it seems that this is what I need to do for my old filenames, but I do not understand exactly how to do it! Can someone help? Thank you!

You should contact your host to see what your options are. You may, for example, be able to handle them all via your web.config file.

Hi Fran -

I see a couple SEO-related topics that you might want to address sooner than later since this is a new store. Presently one can go to http://gollygear.com/" rel="nofollow - http://gollygear.com/ directly. If you have your developer/host establish a web.config entry, it should force such a request to http://www.gollygear.com/" rel="nofollow - http://www.gollygear.com/ so that all of your content gets indexed at one logical domain. Otherwise those references for http://gollygear.com/" rel="nofollow - http://gollygear.com/ (without www) will siphon off some of the www references and affect overall ranking.

Next, your store is using the traditional URLs. You should review this article http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/productcart/seo-urls" rel="nofollow - http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/productcart/seo-urls and consider activating SEO-friendly URLs.

I see other refinements I might recommend, but the above are probably the most critical.

And as for the 301 redirects, as Sean mentioned, one option is to configure such rules in the web.config file. Another option, if supported by your host, is if the web hosting control panel (assuming your host provides such access) may have a redirect module built into it. You need to direct the redirect question to your developer or host.

Edited to substitute "requests" for "references", in order make this a bit clearer. Still not sure I clarified my point. Do you understand the point about www versus non-www?
