Has anyone changed the label printing to a UPS 4 X 6 thermal printer as opposed to the 8.5 X 11 gif?  if so can you share how that is done?

The new version of Product Cart actually allows you to link your order/shipping info directly through productcart with UPS and then it does generate the label for you after you verify the shipping info. Very streamlined. I use fedex myself, but haven't tried it yet but that is my understanding.

Hope its not too late for you I know it's beenn a year. But I'm new.

Some more information on reducing bottle-necks when shipping orders with UPS:

  • The latest version of ProductCart includes a tool that allows you to export customer information and inport it into your Address Book at UPS.com. If you are processing shipments via UPS.com, then this can help cut down on double-entries. The address book at UPS.com can hold up to 2,000 addresses. See the latest version of the ProductCart User Guide for more information on this feature.
  • If you export orders to QuickBooks, you can then process UPS shipments directly from QuickBooks. Click here for more information on this QuickBooks feature. Note that using this feature requires that the store is using the QuickBooks Add-on to export orders and import them into the accounting package.
  • ProductCart v3 will include a new integration with UPS. An official release date has not been set for ProductCart v3. It will likely be during the second quarter of 2006. We will use the UPS API rather than the UPS Online Tools. The API includes the ability for us to integrate label printing from within ProductCart. The "Online Tools" don't, which is why the feature is not there now.

The intergration is only shipping cost lookup.  UPS and USPS will send shipping cost options to your site and that is it.  You can have product cart add shipping and handling fees to cover your packaging material.  After that you will still need to have to enter shipping information into the Worldship software from UPS.

How is the integration between product cart and UPS?  One of the things we are having issues with is keeping up with re entering shipping info.

I use both UPS and USPS.  In gerneral everything over 2 pounds is cheaper with UPS, assuming you offer Priority Mail only.  The nice part using UPS is that the customer can use faster shipping options, and delivery is guaranteed.  We also started first off with postal shipping only.  It just got to the point that we had to bring a lot of boxes to the post office.  The post office now offeres free daily carrier pickup.  We love it, now we have UPS and USPS pick up shipments daily.  You can find more information on www.usps.com   Another interesting part about using UPS.  You can buy shipping scales and label printers from UPS for way less then other stores sell it for.  All you need is an account with UPS.  UPS will provide free printing labels as well.

I was just wondering if anyone would like to share their experiences using the UPS module (and UPS in general) here.

Currently, we ship all of our packages via USPS (because it's cheaper), but volume is picking up and using UPS would certainly make the shipping process smoother.

Any comments?  Suggestions?
