    Posted: 06-May-2010 at 8:44am
I'm noticing that when I search for products, it does not find ones where the category name matches the search term.  For example, if I search for "Grills" eventhough I have a couple of categories names "Grills" it does not return those.  I also have products with the word "Grill" (singular) in the name and/or description, but those don't get found either.

Has anyone else come across this?  Anyone have a fix?

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,

It's doing a search strictly against product information, not category information. It displays category results based on the product data that it finds.

This could certainly be an improvement for the future.

Meanwhile, you could make use of the Custom Fields to each product record to facilitate the searching.

Indeed, if you look at search data, folks to tend to search in the plural most of the time.

This should also be a clue for your SEO: be sure to update title and description meta tags to include the plural, and frankly, it would be a good idea to rework your descriptions to include a plural version of your main keyword phrase for each product.

Thanks for verifying that for me... I'll probably just make sure the search terms are in the description.
