Have you investigated "Custom Shipping Options" on P249 of the ProductCart V3 Manual?
There's quite a variety of methods available. None match exactly what you are asking for, however there is one possibility, (assuming you WILL NOT be using any of the shipping gateways such as UPS / FEDEX etc) is to set different "weights" on your products and then use weight based shipping rates. The weights do not have to reflect reality - HOWEVER - caveat's on that is that if they order several products, or several of the same product, the shipping cost will be based on the total "weight". You should also make sure "weight" is never displayed to the customer, if you are using in an artificial manner. In fact, the issue of how you will price shipping for an order of multiple items needs considering anyway. |

While we're on this subject, I've set up a custom flat rate of $1.00 (up to Free based on $) to accommodate some closeout light weight items. When I add a saddle to the cart and estimate shipping the rates shown include the flat rate of "free" (which is correct for the items I intended this rate for), by the way they also show "Flat Rate Box" under Priority Mail at $9.80. As you can imagine a saddle much more expensive and ships oversize. This is going to be very confusing to customers and could cause bad will for the store. I cannot find anywhere in the documentation how to suppress certain rates from showing to the customer. Is this possible? Is there any chance Product Cart will deal with this in a future update.
Thanks Alan |

Join the crowd!
I've bought up this issue to EI tech support over a month ago. Nothing happened for a while and I had to keep on nagging. They did a minor adjustment, but the rates are still all over the place. Would you please open up a trouble ticket, so they may work on it. We also had some customers selection priority mail flat rate box, which was not in our best interest. It should be in the back office with all the other options, but they have not implemented that yet. They did fix it for the international one. I hope they are getting this done soon. Katharina |

Hi Katharina,
Product-specific shipping options is not something that can be added to ProductCart in the near future, unfortunately. It's a feature that requires too many, substantial changes to the system. That said, if we did not handle your support ticket professionally, that needs to be addressed. What's the ticket number that you are referring to? massimo |

It's in reference to the postal api that returns wrong rates since they have set the new rates and new rules.
053-0FF276A7-44F4 Domestic Priority Mail with a size over one cubic foot (1728") has to be marked "large" and is zoned. Anything from zone 4 and up goes at a minimum of 11 pounds if over one cubic foot. This wasn't the case prior to the new pricing. We now also have domestic priority mail flat rate, which is not reflected in the back office. Something I like to turn off. What is bothering me is that this does not seem to be important, yet it will effect any shipper that uses domestic priority mail. I've received a temporary fix, that marks all to large that are marked as an oversized product in the back office. The problem the rates below zone 4 are now overpriced, and it did the same to parcel post items. Comparing the rates on our site to the ones returned on the postal calculator on their website shows huge price differences. Katharina |

Shipping is a frequent topic on the forum - There are a huge number of possible permutations, different companies to interface with and different ways that people wish to operate.
When you then add in the permutations of different actions based on multiple products being ordered, oversize and very light products, part order shipping, international and special shipping, I wouldn't be surprised if this suspect this is the most complex part of the software! It's certainly one that causes a lot of debate. I guess because it is a significant expense for many online stores as well one of the ways of differentiating your store from others in the same space. |

Thank you All,
I'm certainly not a programmer but let me ask a question. Since we now have a check box to hide shipping charges from an item, couldn't that code be used to hide say 2 of 3 shipping choices? If we could hide for example UPS and USPS and only allow Other Shipping to show, that would go a long way to solving this issue. We could assign rates under custom and only show those rates. Again, not being a programmer, it seems doable. Hamish, I think that it's not only a significant expense for the retailer but confuses and may cause customers to abandon their carts. Thanks again for your feedback. Alan |

Thanks Katharina. I checked with the team and I'm told that this indeed being looked into. The ticket you referenced is not closed. It's pending in our system, which means that work is still being done on it.
The bottom line is that this is not something that we can fix overnight. We need to further review the changes that have been made to the USPS API, then figure out a way to adjust ProductCart accordingly. Unfortunately, this is a case in which vendors like Early Impact were not updated prior to an API change being deployed. This happens all the time, unfortunately, not just with the USPS. |
