Hello,
Who out there has orders where you need to require a signature before you will allow delivery?? I do.
We require a signature on any order over $100. Why? If a customer tells their credit card company that they didn't recieve the order you will lose the chargeback NO QUESTIONS ASKED!!
IF YOU DON'T GET A SIGNATURE ON A PACKAGE AND THE CUSTOMER SAYS THEY DID NOT RECIEVE IT YOU WILL LOSE THE ORDER AND THE MONEY PAID FOR THE ORDER...100% OF THE TIME NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
Thank goodness most people are honest and do not do this unless it is a legitimate claim. However, there are many shady charachters out in cyber space who do know this and take full advantage of it. If the mass consumers knew about this, e-commerce as we know it would be brought to its knees.
Many of our customers request a signature upon delivery... We think this is great, because we want them to sign for it to help protect us against fraud. However, we have to pay the $2 "Signature Required" fee from Fed Ex and USPS (I think the USPS is a little cheaper similar).
For years now, I have been requesting that Product Cart implement an option for us, the Internet retailers, to help protect ourselves against this sort of "I never recieved it" Internet fraud.
It's very simply, you, the Product Cart user should be able to decide at what dollar amount an order should be required to be signed for. For those of you who have purchased from Early Impact, you had to sign and fax back a "release form" stating that you are the credit card holder and that you agree to the purchase. However, for the rest of us who do not sell downloadable software, we have to physically ship the products whichs leaves us completely exposed to fraud.
Sure, you can have each customer sign a form and fax it back to you if you want to be completely buried in paperwork and loose at least 10% of your orders. But why not just have an option where the seller can require a signature and add a $X fee or let the customer request it for $X. (Many people live in apartments want signature required so their packages don't get stolen from other tenants)!!
Come on Early Impact, we have been requesting this for years.
It is time to implement a comprehensive solution:
Signature Required Option
Shipping Insurance Option
Shipping Rates Displayed all on one page option.
These are all quality improvements, but you just need to take time away from creating add-ons to put more money in your pockets and go back to the company that you were 4 years ago...one that listed to the customer and let the customer help you create the AWESOME SHOPPING CART THAT WE HAVE TODAY!!
Thank you,
Brandon Kats

Thank you for the suggestion. This is not a feature that has been frequently requested.

We never used the feature at all. We usually use delivery confirmation and that works with any credit card company when it comes to disputes. Never had an issue in all the years we have been selling. BTW delivery confirmation is free with priority mail. I would strongly suggest to only use FedEx or UPS if you need it for high value items.
