Hey folks. We have a number of customers that are interested in having exclusive products offered for specific customers. We also have a number of situations were we run events that would have limited products from our full catalog that would be offered.
My question is to determine the best manner to accomplish this. We would be running this on the same website/domain as the primary store (perhaps through a masked link from another domain name...but same DB and storefont). We would also like to integrate this as much as possible into the current store. I guess the best question would be if we can provide a "key" that would automatically restrict the products displayed to a specific list?
Any ideas/suggestions?

A good starting point is this entry in the WIKI :-
http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/developers/dealer_only_store?s[]=wholesale%20only It's not an exact match, but it will do as a start - I definately think leveraging customer categories is the best approach. You would also need to consider updating the site search features to take the need to hide some products into account. In combination with the pricing categories I'd probably use special sets of SKU's or Categories as the matching part of the filtering process. Either way there is a good amount of custom coding to do. |

DOH - I forgot the obvious one - even though the WIKI mentions it...
It may, or may not be suitable. IF and ONLY IF you have ONE set of special customers and DON'T use Wholesale, then you can re-purpose wholesale and make appropriate changes to the languages file. You can then add your special products to categories set as wholesale only and they will only be visible to your "Exclusive Customers". Job Done... |
