Hi,
I'm new to pc and have had the installation performed by Early Impact.  I'm getting familiar with the control panel and have entered a few test products and categories/subcategories.  Here is where I have some problems...

1) I noticed that if I view my store using the "view" link within the control panel and click around within the store, the store will hang and I will eventually get the IE "not responding" error.

2) Sometimes from within control panel using Manage Categories, when I edit or add a sub-category, my control panel session just closes... no error or message of any kind.

3) Another odd thing I realized is that when I start out viewing my store the url is "mydomainname.com/store/pc/viewcategories.asp?idCategory=3"  Then I click on a subcategory and the url changes to "ip-address/store/pc/viewcategories.asp?idCategory=2"
Any one know why the domain name switches to ip address?

Thanks for any help you can provide while I'm working through these minor annoyances.

Issues 1 and 2 - I have no idea.  Do you have any similar problems generally using your PC?

On #3, please check the value of the scStoreURL in /productcart/includes/storeconstants.asp and possibly the "home page URL" in the settings section of the admin.

Hi Greg,

Thanks for the quick reply... I see you help a lot of folk here so I, and everyone else appreciates your help.
Concerning #1 & 2... I don't have a problem anywhere else that is why I thought it was so wierd.  I have a laptop less than a year old thats nicely protected and up-to-date.  I'm running XP Pro, Service pack 3 with IE 7.  Does Product Cart work better on a different browser?  I guess I could try that.

Concerning #3... The "store url" is empty in admin>settings.  Also scStoreURL="" as well in storeconstants.asp.  Which option would you suggest that I set?

Thanks again!!

PC runs fine on IE, FF, Safari and others.  Any peculiarity you are having is uncommon and unique to (lucky) you.  Heck, I'm actually rather to partial to IE (I know, I know) so the environment in which you are operating is what I ordinarily use without difficulty.

scStoreURL="" is probably causing some grief.  that should contain your domain name.  See the wiki article on activation: http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/productcart/activate

Store URL
This is the path to the productcart folder that you have uploaded to your store. If you uploaded the productcart folder to your root directory, this path coincides with your store URL, e.g. "http://www.mystore.com/". If you placed the productcart folder in a subdirectory called mystore, the URL would be "http://www.mystore.com/mystore/". If you rename the “productcart” folder, remember to edit the corresponding variable in the file “includes/productcartfolder.asp”.

If  you continue to have problems, a link to your store would help please.

Hi Greg,

Lucky me... I'm going to continue testing things to see if there is a common sequence that causes a problem.

Concerning the url... I paid for the installation, pc worked with Jolt to get things setup.   So I basically didn't do anything except login with the temp userid and password provided to me.  Is there anything I need to do on my end except renaming the admin and pc folders?  I'm new to this (not only to pc but having an online store as well), but thought maybe I need to having pc installed locally for development purposes.

Again... Thanks!

A local installation is optional but I always develop live on the server.  Your reseller should be able to assist you.  Have you reported these problems to them>

Yeah, it does seem easier to develop live... I can do that.  Concerning a reseller, I didn't use one, I bought directly from Early Impact.

My point was that if you are hosting with Jolt, I'm sure they can get past the #3 issue if it is not configured correctly.  That's certainly what I would be doing if I had performed the install.

Hi Greg,

I understand what you are saying... thanks!
While doing some testing (Control Panel >Home>View Home Page) I see that the page hangs while downloading data... what I see in the status bar is...

"(1 item remaining) Downloading data http://ipaddress/store/pc/images/highslide/zoomin/cur..."

Could it be something related to highslide?

I need to narrow down a question that your comments have raised.  Is this installed on your local workstation or server, or is this at your host?  I'd like to have the context of where you are seeing all of these issues please.
