Subject: Errors logging in after migrating to new server...
Date Posted: 15-February-2010 at 10:42am
All seemd to go well after migrating to a new server - able to browse pages, categories, add productst to cart - EXCEPT for when trying to login:

On the main cart login <SERVER>productcart/pc/Checkout.asp?cmode=1
... after attempting to login, this message appears:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An error has occured in this store. We apologize for the inconvenience.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...and the query string show:
<SERVER>productcart/pc/techErr.asp?error=Error+in+DBsv+3%3A+

-AND-

On the Control Panel login <SERVER>productcart/admin/login_1.asp
...shows the ProductCart End User License Agreement with the checkbox and "Submit" button. Ticking checkbox and clicking the "Submit" returns to the same login page with end user agreement.

I believe I've followed all the 'moving to a new server' instructions from the wiki - i.e. Step 2 of the Product Activation Wizard show success with Enabled Parent Paths, Folder permissions and Database connection string, etc...

There is obviously some amiss however.

Using ProductCart v3.03

Any advice, suggestions greatly appreciated.

3.03 or 4.03?  I'm going to guess that was a typo and you have the latest version.  If so, I'll further guess that you need permissions on the PCADMIN/CPLOGS folder.

If really v3.03, please confirm.

OK, then please make certain that your CPlogs folder has the correct permissions.  As you attempt to log in, the system is recording a log entry to that location.  If your permissions are not set, the write fails and precisely what you are seeing is what can be predicted to happen.

I very much appreciate the assistance... however, I do not see any folder named "CPlogs" in my productcart directory.

It should be in the pcadmin folder, or whatever you renamed that folder.  If it is not in there, you have an incomplete install.

Currently, I have a fully functioning PC cart on a server that will be disabled in the near future. Neither this functioning PC cart. or the new server PC cart (with the errors) contain the folder "CPlogs". Both folders are identical on each server mentioned above, and as follows:

ProductCart\mgcsadmin\
images\
importlogs\
licenses\
newslists\
productWizard\
uploadresize\

Thanks again for the help...

I have a similar issue on a 4.0 SP3 site after renaming the pcadmin folder. After renaming that folder I get the issue with the checkbox when attempting to get to the cp login. I get this on FireFox on two computers, on IE 6 on one, but not in IE 8 on the other. My client, however, doesn't have any issue at all here.

Just for good measure, I followed Greg's observation here and have comfirmed that the CPLogs folder has modify permissions.

SCM, I can't imagine how the store would be running successfully without the CPLogs folder, but I'd suggest the following.

Please create a CPLogs folder in your admin, set write permissions per the WIKI, and see if that helps things.  If still unsuccessful, and unless your host is familiar with PC, I'd suggest submitting a support ticket to Early Impact.

OY, just got a note from Mark who pointed out that I overlooked your confirmation that you really are on v3.03.  Yikes!  That is really old.

CPLogs was not introduced until v3.10 or so, so that's not the issue.

You are going to need to edit a couple files.  See this article: http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/how_to/show_raw_errors - http://wiki.earlyimpact.com/how_to/show_raw_errors

Once you have commented out the first “on error resume next” statement in includes/opendb.asp and pcadmin/adminv.asp  you should see some more-specific errors. Please post them here.

Also, v3.03 is REALLY OLD and contains security issues.  Please do not reveal publicly here the URL to your store, and please make plans to get your store upgraded.

I very much appreciate your assistance with my problem, and will continue to experiment with the permissions. If I still cannot find success, I will contact Early Impact as suggested.

Thanks for the update... I will see if I can get more specific errors by making the changes you suggested, and per the wiki.

And Yikes indeed! I just took over this project 3 days ago, so I'm rapidly getting up to speed... so, an update is definately in order.

I will post the error(s) here as soon as I can reproduce them.

Commented out the first “on error resume next” statement in: includes/opendb.asp

There were no “on error resume next” statements in:  pcadmin/adminv.asp

Attempt to login to storefront produced this error (from error logs - storefront produced 500 internal server error):

/productcart/pc/login.asp lmode=2|50|80040e2f|Cannot_insert_the_value_NULL_into_column_'idDbSession'__table_'STORE.dbo.pcCustomerSessions';_column_does_not_allow_nulls._INSERT_fails. 80

Hi SCM,

If I were in your spot, I would proceed with upgrading. That will very likely solve your login issue too.

Just a heads up, but if the store you are working on is way back to 3.0.3, then you will have a multi-step upgrade.

You should upgrade to at least 3.51 for security concerns alone. Whether you want to go all the way to v4 SP3 or wait until v4.1 is released, I'll leave for you to deliberate.

It sounds like there may be a difference in the database between old and new host.
Before you take any further action could you please determine what database you had at the old host, and what you have now?

Who is the new host?

BTW, by database I mean SQL 2000, 2005 or 2008.

Understood...

Current (working): 9.0.2050
New (problems): 9.00.1399.06

So, it looks like both are 2005, and the current (working) has SP1.

Hi SCM, just had a closer look at your error here and there does seem to be something amis with your database transfer. The error here is essentially saying that the db can't create the primary key for the pcCustomerSessions table; however, that value should be auto incremented. Apparently that is the problem -- it's not incrementing, so it therefore has no value, but as the primary key it can't be NULL either.

What method did you use to migrate your database?

Sean... I think you're right - I think I'm missing some (all?) PKs.

Let me see if I can get a correct backup (... right now, I'm limited to access via SSMS 2005 (... as the previous developer has disappeared, and I don't have access to the backup directory on that server).

Make sure the old  host performs a backup via SQL Studio and provides to you a .BAK file.

I want to thank you, Greg and Sean, for your expert and timely replies to my problem. Waiting now on the host to deliver a correct/valid backup...

Most appreciated...
