I have a group of customers that aren't considered wholesale, but appear in a pricing category with a 20% discount.

With respect to rewards points, I was under the impression that "price" refers to what it costs the customer as they check out. So if the list price is $10, but they get a 20% discount, their "price" is $8.00 and they earn points accordingly.

Unfortunately, that's not what happens. Not only do they get a 20% discount, they also earn points for the list price, not the price they paid. Now I'm wondering how points are effected by a difference in list price and online price.

Anyone have any insight? Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Lucy Zoe

Hi Lucy Zoe,

This is a limitation in the Reward Points feature.

Reward Points are not calculated dynamically during checkout based on the price paid. They are set in the Control Panel for each product and that is the figure used during checkout, regardless of whether you are using a coupon that lowers the total order price, or whether you belong to a special pricing category.

The online or list price is only used in the Control Panel to quickly assign Reward Points to multiple products at once, based on those prices.

Remember: Reward Points can be compared to airline miles: regardless of how much you paid for a plane ticket, you earn the same amount of miles for a specific flight. The person sitting next to you might have spent twice as much as you for the same plane ticket, and yet the typically earn the same amount of miles for that flight.

Thanks. I appreciate your answer. I'll be borrowing your "airline miles" analogy when explaining the program.

Despite the limitation...it's still a great feature.

Thanks,
Lucy Zoe
