Edit: Im happy to say this issue has been resolved.  I had a programmer look at the files and he was able to complete/modify them to working order.

Thanks for all the help

Hi.

I had hired Greybeard design group to work on some code for my website.  They did so wonderfully, however I overwrote the code by mistake when I did a PC Upgrade.

Luckily, I have some of these .ASP files that are backed up, but my understanding of them is that they are incomplete.

I don't work with Greybeard anymore, and I was wondering if someone could possibly look at these .ASP files and see what needs to be done to make them work properly.  My understanding of these files is that they are an incomplete version of the modified PC files.

I have uploaded them all to the /PC/ Folder, but they haven't made any difference on the website.

These files - when they are working properly - display Product Lead Times underneath the Product Thumbnails.  That way the customer doesn't have go to the Product Details page just to find out what the lead times are like.

Here is an example of what it is suppose to look like:

If someone wants to take a crack at it to get it working, that would be cool!  Any help would be appreciated.  Im almost in a panic here because Im not sure what to do.

Thanks

Hi BlackRegDesigns,

I know it's too little, too late for you, but I'd advice you to learn from this mistake and make the following two changes:

  1. Always be sure you have local backups before you make major changes.
  2. Migrate to a hosting company that can easily provide backup copies of your source files in such an event.

Looks to me that you are hosted with GoDaddy. While I think they are an excellent registrar, they are about as poor a host as you could get. I recommend you consider a real hosting company. EI provides references to several.

You should contact Greg Dinger (Greybearddesign) gregd@greybearddesign.com and as him for copies of the modification he did.  I bet he has a copy of the project, since it is pretty much industry standard.

Katharina, just to clarify, I delivered the only backup I retained after the project, but it was not the final version. The final version of the code was on the server, and Joe confirmed that it was working correctly at the end of my assignment.

I had no obligation to retain such a backup, and Joe neglected to adequately protect his client's web site when he performed the site upgrade a few days after I completed the work.

Joe and I have agreed, for reasons I choose to keep private, to not further work together.  So Joe needs to find a new developer to assist him with his programming needs.

Hi Joe,

Just took a peep at your hosting plans, and I see GoDaddy offers really cheap reseller plans. Would be hard to find a serious Windows host offering reseller plans that cheap. On the other hand, in my experience, their tech support is so ignorant that we actually won't work with anyone with more than a simple HTML site hosted on their servers.

However, you still might want to consider finding a serious Windows host.

Bar none the best Windows hosting company we've had experience with over the past decade is Applied Innovations (Appliedi.net). They REALLY know what they are doing, and their support is absolutely top notch.

We were never a reseller with them, but rather had several unmanaged dedi servers in their data center before moving on to our own network.

If you have enough hosting clients to support it, you might even want to consider an managed or unmanaged dedi server (more likely two: one for hosting and one for SQL server). Then you'd have total control over whatever you'd like to do on your server.

Give them a call and ask for Carlos.

Sean,

Thanks for the info on the Hosting Servers.  My admin experience has a ways to go, so I don't know if owning dedi's would be good for me, at this point.  But I am open to switching hosting services.

I checked out the appliedi.net, looks like a good company.  Ill give them a call next week and discuss things.

Also, thanks for the PM

take care

Hi Joe,

I'll take a look at the files for you but I can't promise I'll come up with the answer.

I've downloaded the files from the link you gave. When you say you understand they are an incomplete version could you expand on that please. Should there be other files or are these all the files but they dont have all the code?

Hi Nigel -

I actually had an incredibly skilled programmer look at these files, and he was able to complete them just today.  So this is a non-issue for me now.  I appreciate your help though, and thank you for looking into this.
