Is there any way to "trigger" a
change of customer type from retail to wholesale by the purchase of a
product?

We're using "wholesale" for our loyalty program. In other words, when a
customer pays to become a "Friend" they get Friend discounts (ie
wholesale prices). 

It would be very smooth if the act of buying a product (that is, a
Friend Membership) triggered a change in their status from retail to
wholesale.

Is there a way?

And they replied:

Not "out of the box", but it would not be difficult to implement for a good developer. You might want to post the question on our forums or contact a Certified ProductCart Developer for a quote. This should be a small development project (an hour or two of programming).
